About Us

                               The Lot Valley

We are Susan and Simon White, an English couple from Tamworth, Staffordshire. We would like to tell you about our house situated in a lovely French village in the Aveyron, a much neglected but beautiful region of France. Situated 100 miles north of Montpellier, the Aveyron is an area that is only just beginning to be discovered by French and English alike. Its friendly people and gently rolling landscapes make it a must for those who yearn for the tranquility that England used to offer.

Tranquil and peaceful, the Aveyron may be, but there is so much more to enjoy in this delightful region. The Aveyron is often referred to as the French Lake District and our house is just three kilometres from the Lac de Pareloup, the largest of the lakes at 27 miles in circumference. The Lac de Pareloup offers beaches and all kinds of watersports for the more active types. The Aveyron is a great favorite with those who enjoy walking and bike riding through beautiful unspoilt countryside.

The Aveyron has many beautiful village to visit. 10 of the top 20 most charming villages in France are situated in the Aveyron area. All these are within an hours drive of our house in Arvieu. Driving is an absolute delight in The Aveyron with very little traffic and it makes a lovely change to the crowded urban roads we are all used to.

The lovely  village of Estaing in the North Aveyron

The beautiful city of Rodez, just 25 miles from Arvieu , is a wonderful mixture of old and new. This is modern city with modern ameneties, lots of great restaurants but a city that is steeped in history too. With a small population of only 38,000 people this city has everything. Stroll through the cobbled streets and browse the many small shops and stalls of the open market.

On the outskirts there are many retail parks and hypemarkets allowing you to enjoy all the benefits of a major city while still retaining its distinctly French nature.

Perched on top of the hill that Rodez is built on is the impressive 13th century Cathedral of Notre Dame. There is nowhere in this city where you can escape the aged gaze of this wonderful building, a constant reminder to Rodez's ancient past. The cathedral dominates the city and provides an excellent point of reference should ever you get lost.
